The New York Art Book Fair
From September 19 to 22 I will be participating in The New York Art Book Fair. This year I will share a table with Joachim Schmid in the geodesic dome located in the courtyard of MoMA PS1.
Three new books will be available: The Man of the Crowd, The Gospel of the Photographer, and The Kingdom. There will be a postcard set offered with Highlights in the History of The Invisible Book. And the 2013 release of In this Dark Wood will be launched by J&L Books.
On September 20 at 4PM, Chris Burnett and I will talk about In this Dark Wood and present a glimpse into the unique artifact that is the source of the book’s images: the Selle collection of more than one million street vendor photographs taken in San Francisco from the 1940s until the 1970s. A celebration of ephemeral images in a mix of slideshow, reading, and lecture. Presented by J&L Books in The Classroom, curated by David Senior. The Classroom is in the main building at MoMA PS1.
At our table we will also have Chris Burnett signing The Rest of the World on September 20 at 6PM.
Afterimage
In the new issue of Afterimage (Vol. 41, No. 1) is a short essay I wrote titled ‘Two Swimming Pools’ about the work process behind my two Ed Ruscha remakes, Recounted and One Swimming Pool. Information about this issue of Afterimage here.
Read online
There is now a page on the website with scans of publications that appeared in literary magazines and other collaborations. Six are in English (or visual). Twenty are in Dutch. Visit the new page here.
Photo Book Corner
A nice bookshop in Lisboa. They now carry my books The Man of the Crowd and In this Dark Wood.
A ghost book
A message to collectors of my work. It has been brought to my attention that I seem to have published a non-existent book. Artist Joachim Schmid has apparently laid hands on a few copies and is offering them for sale here at a price that in any case would appear to be more reasonable than the copies offered on Amazon.com. Please be advised that I myself haven’t seen any copies of this book yet, though some people say: “good name. great book.”
UPDATE (July 6 2013) The mysterious book has already vanished again and the links above have become irrelevant. I have bought one on Ebay and will post soon. The Jean Keller copies seem to be the only ones available anymore.
Exhibition in München
From June 6 till September 22 One Swimming Pool will be on view at the Museum Brandthorst (München) in the exhibition Ed Ruscha Books & Co. This is to a large extent a prolongation of the show that was at Gagosian earlier. Besides this show there will also be other books, photographs and paintings by Ruscha on view.
Downloads
On this new page on my site I will start adding pdf’s of poetry, translations, (visual) essays and such that I published in years past, mostly from literary magazines, and mostly in Dutch.
Library of the Printed Web
Paul Soulellis will present the Library of the Printed Web at The Book Affair, at the opening of the 55th Venice Biennale, 29–31 May. The presentation will include my work and that of some 30 other artists, including Penelope Umbrico, Joachim Schmid, David Horvitz, Fraser Clark, Mishka Henner, Guthrie Lonergan, Lauren Thorson, Clement Valla, and Jason Huff.
Two Minute Exhibition video
On April 12 I had a two minute exhibition at Visual Studies Workshop in Rochester, NY, timed during VSW’s Annual Auction. David Mount made a wonderful documentation of the show. Watch it here.
