Publication in Revisor
Literary magazine Revisor #21 came out, and contains three new poems that I wrote.
De wolk
Another new book of mine was published. De wolk (‘the cloud’) is a literary and visual work in Dutch, based on the poetry of P.C. Boutens and published as #154 in the Slibreeks, by Den Boer/De Ruiter, Vlissingen, 2017. This post will continue in Dutch.
De wolk is een literair en visueel werk dat zich baseert op de poëzie van P.C. Boutens (1870 – 1943). Zo klein het is, verhoudt het boekje zich tot het hele lyrische oeuvre van Boutens waar het doorheen leest. Twaalf gedichten van Boutens zijn zo gecombineerd dat ze zelf (semi-automatisch) nieuwe gedichten hebben geschreven. Naar voren komt hoezeer het vroegere werk en het latere verwant zijn en met elkaar in dialoog staan. Het boekje is een wolk van tekst en witruimte, en is in verschillende richtingen te lezen, zowel van boven naar onder op de pagina als van links naar rechts en van rechts naar links over verschillende pagina’s heen. Er onstaat zo een multidimensionale ruimte van gelijktijdige lezingen; een nieuw werk tussen Boutens, mijzelf (ET) en de lezer in.
Deze publicatie is gerealiseerd als #154 in de Slibreeks en werd mede mogelijk gemaakt door een bijdrage van het Stimuleringsfonds Creatieve Industrie en De Drvkkery in Middelburg.

Mijn poëziebundel Voor het ideaal, lees de schaal is verschenen bij het balanseer. Het boek is mijn Nederlandstalige poëziedebuut, na eerdere bibliofiele uitgaven. Het is vanaf nu te bestellen via de boekhandel of direct bij de uitgeverij. Het balanseer zal ook aanwezig zijn op de Beurs voor bijzondere uitgevers die zondag 10 december in Paradiso plaatsvindt. Ik heb daar zelf ook een tafel en zal nog over de beurs berichten.

Presentation ‘Voor het ideaal, lees de schaal’

Eind november verschijnt mijn poëziebundel Voor het ideaal, lees de schaal bij het balanseer. Meer informatie volgt nog, het boek is momenteel bij de drukker. Het boek is mijn Nederlandstalige poëziedebuut, na eerdere bibliofiele uitgaven.
De presentatie is tijdens de viering van het 10-jarig bestaan van uitgeverij het balanseer, op 29 november vanaf 20.00 uur in het Gouvernement, Gouvernementstraat 7, 9000 Gent. Iedereen is welkom op deze avond. Klik hier voor meer informatie.

Husch!
Another recent publication in German, Husch! is a small book containing two poems composed from sentences found in a grammar book (Hermann Sanders’ Kurzgefaßtes Lehrbuch der Deutschen Sprache für Chinesen which was first published in 1922). The first poem is titled ‘Was ich weiss’ (What I know), the second poem is ‘Das Wetter’ (The Weather). Each page carries only one line and the lines move about the pages in a free manner.
Published in Berlin, June 2015.
Edition of 65 numbered copies. Black & white printing, perfect bound paperback. Size 10.5 x 14.8 cm, 84 pages.

They Were Like Poetry
I’m happy to announce my new book. It consists of poems based on a suggestion by James Joyce.
The poems are exercises, composed from sentences that were themselves meant as exercises. The sentences come from a popular 19th century school grammar by Alexander Allen and James Cornwell. Joyce mentions the “nice sentences” in this book and the idea of them as poetry in A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man:
And there were nice sentences in Doctor Cornwell’s Spelling Book. They were like poetry but they were only sentences to learn the spelling from.
——Wolsey died in Leicester Abbey
——Where the abbots buried him.
——Canker is a disease of plants,
——Cancer one of animals.
It would be nice to lie on the hearthrug before the fire, leaning his head upon his hands, and think on those sentences.
Which is what I did.
The edition consists of 100 numbered copies. The book is self-published, has black & white printing, a paperback binding, and contains 68 pages.
Priced at €24 plus shipping. The book can be ordered through my webshop or by sending me an email. It will also be available at the table I’m sharing with Joachim Schmid at the New York Art Book Fair, September 25-28.

On press for World Book Night
My Bukowski inspired OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOhhhhhhhhhHHHH! is ready for printing by Sarah Bodman at the Centre for Fine Print Research in Bristol tonight (in celebration of World Book Night). The invitation was to create a summary of Bukowski’s Post Office. Wishing everyone happy printing!
Exhibition in Heerlen
My work in the show ‘Eeuwige Jachtvelden’ curated by Maarten Dings for Kunstencentrum Signe in Heerlen, The Netherlands. The text is from De wereld zou meeuw, particularly a section on the boredom of growing up in the surroundings of Heerlen. The show runs from December 13 till January 26.
