Presentation ‘Voor het ideaal, lees de schaal’
I am very happy to announce my forthcoming poetry book which will be published by het balanseer. More information will follow soon, the book is currently at the printer but the date of its presentation can already be shared. This post will continue in Dutch, which is the language of the book.
Eind november verschijnt mijn poëziebundel Voor het ideaal, lees de schaal bij het balanseer. Meer informatie volgt nog, het boek is momenteel bij de drukker. Het boek is mijn Nederlandstalige poëziedebuut, na eerdere bibliofiele uitgaven.
De presentatie is tijdens de viering van het 10-jarig bestaan van uitgeverij het balanseer, op 29 november vanaf 20.00 uur in het Gouvernement, Gouvernementstraat 7, 9000 Gent. Iedereen is welkom op deze avond. Klik hier voor meer informatie.
Het boek is na verschijning te bestellen via de boekhandel of direct bij het balanseer. Het bevat 144 pagina’s en de prijs is € 22,50.
The Art of Reading, from William Kentridge to Wikipedia
A Dialogue in Useful Phrases and its sound project will be on view in the exhibition The Art of Reading: From William Kentridge to Wikipedia. The exhibition is curated by House of the Book, a collaboration between Museum Meermanno and the National Library of the Netherlands. Over twenty installations, arranged as experimental areas, give visitors the opportunity to become acquainted with different aspects of reading.
The exhibition will run from November 18 to March 4, 2018. The opening will take place on November 17th, you can see the details of the Dutch invitation by clicking the image above.

Doing Easy
Two small works of mine are currently on view in a wonderfully unique exhibition in a residence in Joshua Tree, in the High Desert of California. Curated by Erik Benjamins, Doing Easy is a domestic intervention that presents the work of visual artists, designers and writers who reflect on the sway of place.
Doing Easy optimistically engages with the domestic space as a privileged and underestimated sanctuary for reflection, education, production, and ritual. The presented works—ranging from a cork doorstop to a wooden chair to a folder of poems to a scented hand soap—have been installed in a way which allows them to slip into the daily routines and rhythms of a living, breathing home.
My autosummary poem ‘Eugene!’ based on Thomas Wolfe’s Look Homeward, Angel is placed on a bedside table. Real Estate Dreams. Nr. 1 The Candle, a small series of found real estate images is located on the kitchen wall.

The NY Art Book Fair
I’m participating in the twelfth annual NY Art Book Fair, presented by Printed Matter from September 21 to 24, 2017, at MoMA PS1, Long Island City, Queens.
Joachim Schmid and myself are sharing a table on the 2nd floor, booth N63. My book An Empty Field will be launched at the fair and I’ll present a variety of other recent books.
Free and open to the public, the NY Art Book Fair is the world’s premier event for artists’ books, catalogs, monographs, periodicals, and zines presented by more than 350 international presses, booksellers, antiquarians, artists, and independent publishers from at least 29 countries.

Exhibition in London
My bookwork The Plan will be presented in burning with pleasure #3, an exhibition of artists’ books at Seen Fifteen Gallery in London. The exhibition is curated by Magali Avezou of Archipelago.
For the past three years burning with pleasure has aimed, once a year, to report on the present production of innovative artists’ books from around the world. The selection intends to reflect on contemporary image culture and to broaden the discourse on photography and photobooks.
Artists presented include Francis Alÿs, Yto Barrada, Ruth van Beek, Katrien de Blauwer, Anouk Kruithof, Raymond Meeks, Jean-Luc Moulène, Joachim Schmid, Elisabeth Tonnard and Daisuke Yokota.
The exhibition runs from September 8 to 30.

Foam Fusion, photography and words
On June 11 I’m participating in a discussion about photography and words with Federica Chiocchetti and Jaysha Obispo. The program and the ticket details can be found here.
The discussion is part of Foam Fusion, a cross-disciplinary festival around the theme of collaboration, sparked by Foam’s 15th anniversary. The festival aims to go beyond the limits of photography and develop ties across different disciplines. There will be a variety of presentations and performances, discussions, artist talks and workshops during the weekend of June 9 – 11.

Exhibitions, Amsterdam to Pittsburgh
I’m participating in two shows that open this coming week.
Collectivism opens today at Foam Museum in Amsterdam. My work is on view as part of the Dead Darlings presentation. More information about the show can be found here. The exhibition runs from April 21 to June 18.
AWAKE Reading Room is part of the PGH Photo Fair taking place at the Carnegie Museum in Pittsburgh on April 29 and 30. The reading room is curated by 10×10 Photo Books and concentrates on protest books. My book An Empty Field will be on view.
Mondriaan Fund stipendium
The Mondriaan Fund recently supported my work through the stipendium program for established artists. I’ll use this valuable contribution to continue developing my work in the coming four years. Information about the stipendium program can be found here (in Dutch).
Exhibition Uncensored Books
The Plan will be on view in Uncensored Books, an exhibition curated by Natasha Christia which runs from April 7 to 18 during Belgrade Photo Month.
The show brings together a series of photobooks and installations that address in a critical way, through both their content and form, the production, uses / misuses, consumption and circulation of the Image today within dominant mass ideology’s narrative systems. By exploring new dissemination and audience engagement channels, many of its featured titles point to the potential role of photography and books can assume as activism tools.
