Voor het ideaal in De Groene Amsterdammer
Alfred Schaffer recently reviewed my book Voor het ideaal, lees de schaal. See below, where this post continues in Dutch.
De reeksen in Voor het ideaal, lees de schaal lopen thematisch en stilistisch sterk uiteen, maar steeds is de taal nauwkeurig en het geheel is op prettige wijze raadselachtig. Reeksen als ‘De kiezelstenen’ (met onder andere een adembenemend gedicht over het begraven van een duif), ‘Parachutisten’, ‘Zeilen’, ‘De bergen zijn grijs, de zee is groen’ en ‘Coniferen’ kan ik blijven herlezen. Zorgvuldig geformuleerd, zonder vet aan de randen. […]
Al lezend vergat ik de techniek en de eventuele teksten die wel of niet achter deze bundel schuilgaan. De authenticiteit zit in de kijkrichting, in de respectvolle selectie en schikking van het materiaal. Daar zit het gevoel, om het klef te zeggen. Gelukkig is poëzie geen veredeld potje quizzen – het gaat om het plezier van de tekst. Dat plezier is hier volop te vinden.

De wolk in de Volkskrant
Arjan Peters from De Volkskrant wrote about my book De wolk, see the article below. This book, a cloud of text and white space that can be read in different directions, combines twelve poems of P. C. Boutens in such a way that they semi-automatically write new poems.

Two new discussions of my work
The new year started well with discussions of my work by two insightful critics who have both been following my work for a substantial time.
Sarah Bodman wrote an article about literature and the artist’s book, discussing several of my books and drawing connections to interesting works by Sally Alatalo, John McDowall and Colin Sackett. Published in Polish in the journal Er(r)go, the editors and Sarah Bodman have given kind permission for an English version (PDF) to be put online here.
Johan Velter wrote a glowing reading of my latest book The Plan. You can find it here on his blog (in Dutch).
Het nieuwe project (!) van Elisabeth Tonnard verenigt alle kwaliteiten en gevoeligheden: haar liefde voor het wit en de ruimte, de ironie van dit bestaan, de liefde voor de nietszeggende foto die dan alles kan betekenen, de herhaling, de subtiele wijzigingen. En tegelijkertijd is dit ook een maatschappijkritiek die het kan zonder grote woorden te moeten gebruiken, geen moralisme gebruikt (Against expression) maar overloopt van betekenis en cultuur.
